I took some test shots today using my Nikon D90 with Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens, using the Nikon SB-900 external flash unit. I set up the SB-900 on remote, pointing from the left, while using my built-in flash as the commander unit. I did not want the built-in flash to fire off, but unfortunately, I was not able to achieve that setting.

Hmm… still wondering if it is still technically feasible to fire off the remote external flash without setting off the built-in. It is probably possible with an additional SB-900 as the master mounted on the camera. The other option will be a remote cable I guess.

As I looked out the window, the heavy downpour has quietened to just a drizzle. The rain droplets ran down the glass panels of my window with the darkened skies forming an ominous backdrop.

I remember more than a year ago, I was just playing around with my Canon G7 and took some photos from this window. So I went to the window again, and simply took the same shot again, just as comparison.

Seems like ages ago… :-)

    What was your conclusion?

Hi CSC, on the external flash set-up, I think I will need a remote cable if I want to avoid spending on another flash unit. As for the comparison between the G7 and D90, it is not exactly an apple-to-apple comparison. I love both my cameras and of course the D90 has great versatility with the ability to add on new lenses and new accessories. Technically, with its more advanced features, the D90 should theoretically produce high quality images, assuming the constant is the person using it :-D

Wa! Playing with ur new “toy” during weekends huh? ;)
Like the pic with the droplets…maybe can zoom a bit more to see the droplets…

Wow … lovely pictures. How did you get the exposure right for the last picture? I tend to get the buildings too dark or if I EL the building, the sky will be over exposed.

Yes Dora, I’m so in love with my new toy I can’t stop touching her :-P Actually you are right, I should have gone right up to the window and took a closer picture of the water droplet. I think I was preoccupied by the camera manual, and the weather made it so cozy I was lazy to do much.

Wilfrid, I think it has less to do with my skills and more to do with the right timing. Nothing beats great light at the right moment. Right after a storm, around dusk, the light was perfect and gives a beautiful exposure. You can do it with your eyes closed.
