For the past 2 weeks of so, I have been experiencing this little twitching in my right eye. It’s actually these little tugs that the muscles do at very high frequencies. Not painful but rather irritating. The old Chinese ladies will latch on to the superstition that someone is saying something bad about you, or that impending doom is approaching. But I tend not to buy those conspiracy theories. It actually went away for a short while, then it came back again earlier this week. I’ve been ignoring it for some time, but today, when I looked close into the mirror, I could actually see the little twitching happening around the lower part of my eyebag. Not sure what the exact cause is, or if I should be unduly worried, I did a quick search and found tons of sites offering some possible explanations.

Hmm… MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia defines it as blepharospasm, and that “It happens when your eyelid muscles repeatedly and rhythmically contract. In some instances, the eyelid may repeatedly close (or nearly close) and re-open.”. It went on to say that, “The most common things that make the muscle in your eyelid twitch are fatigue, stress, and caffeine.”. Hmm… sounds they all apply to me! Hmm… they advise (1) more sleep, (2) drink less caffeine, (3) lubricate eyes with eye drops. There’s even a support group http://www.blepharospasm.org!

Kellogg basically talks about the same things, while Chet Day’s recommendations were presented in a rather interesting fashion. Some other articles suggest emotional stress as one of the factors, while About.com has this tiny part that says in serious cases, Botox (Botulinum toxin injections) might be needed, or the twitchings could indicate the possibility of underlying conditions.

Conclusion is, I’m gonna hope that my upcoming New Zealand trip will help relax my mind, give me more rest and perhaps I might drink more milk than I do coffee. Ironically, I just downed a cuppa right before checking out the articles! Doh!!

    Wrong.

Depending on the hour and whether or not it happens to your left or right eye, it could mean either good or bad things. Chances are half-half. I know because I have seen the chart.

And this “knowledge” is written in one of the compilation of the old Chinese knowledge and traditions (itself as a calendar with lots of poems teaching people how to be good, face and palm reading, and etc.) that is still in print in today’s world. Each new year there is a new compilation.
