The CliffI went to Krabi, Thailand with my ever-cheery wife on the 26th and made it back (with tan and all) just yesterday around noon. It was a good short getaway from the usual bustle and crowd of our hazy cityscape.

After arriving at the Krabi Airport via Tiger Airways (I dislike the free seating concept, but it’s budget airline, so whatever) and checking out of the long queue at the immigration, we grabbed a cab for 600 baht to our resort in Ao Nang. We arrived at The Cliff (our resort) shortly after and the cabby made us a deal to pick us up on our departure date for 500 baht! I mean woohoo! Why not right? We were promptly greeted by the resort staff (2 pretty young ladies) and everything seems to have been prepared in advance. They even have free Internet access! Talk about customer service!

Our room was interestingly decorated with some rose petals arranged in the shape of the big heart on the bed, but my wife felt it was a little small. I had no complaints, since I was not about to do any break-dancing in there. To cut a long story short, this is a breakdown of the activites we did over the few days:

  • Went to Railey Beach for suntanning
  • Went to a very small market
  • Swimming (and tanning) at the resort pool
  • Went to Krabi Town for some shopping
  • Food and more food
  • Foot massage, hair cut, wash and blow dry, pedicure
  • I did some work (mostly to reply emails), which kinda sucked

My LegacyThere are actually lots of other activities such as sea diving, snorkelling, river rafting, yachting, island hopping, watching Thai boxing on Friday… the usual stuff, but we decided to give those a pass.

A few things I learnt on this trip (1) our automated immigration counters rock! Some minor complaints but they still rock! (2) Make sure you have a backup at work while you’re on holiday. If not, leave the damn phone at home. I would say I enjoyed the trip on a whole and will recommend Krabi (and our resort) to anyone looking for a short holiday for some R&R.

Krabi it is! Sounds like a nice place. A bed with rose petals ya? How romantic.

So, is the food there good? The ambience? Is it like a Westerner Resort tourist spot? Reason I asked that is because Cynthia and I visited Koh Samui long time ago and we love the place. We rented a jeep and it was quite an adventure. So not sure what Krabi’s like. How is Krabi compares to Bali?

The food in general was good and cheap. Maybe some dishes were a bit too spicy or oily. After my last lesson in Bangkok, I have since abstained from roadside stalls. Krabi is a place right by the ocean, and within it we stayed at Ao Nang which was the town right by the sea. There are some small islands which are being developed for holiday resorts. In comparison, I think I have seen more beautiful and crystal clear waters than Krabi’s. I’ve not been to Bali and cannot comment on that. The last image I saw of Bali was on TV after the last bomb blast, which was not pretty.
