My flight landed around 5am in the hazy morning when the skies were still dark and souls were still sound asleep. Proceeding to the immigration counter on the far right reserved for locals only, my girlfriend and I made our ways quickly to the belt for luggage collection. The seemingly strict enforcement of scans at the exits stumped us a little, so I told my girlfriend to proceed without me first. With thumping heart, which skipped a beat as the luggages went through the machine, I shook my head when asked if I had any liquor or cigarettes to declare. Finally I exited with glee and a sigh of relief, as I spotted my girlfriend. Apparently she had simply walked through the gates unmolested =(
As it was still early, and not wanting to pay the extra charges before 6am, we sat down at the chairs and split some of the goodies we bought. My eyes were getting heavy as I sat and stared at some tour groups from China, as they chatted incessantly in high-pitched voices. Hmm… one group joined the Uniquely Singapore tour and they were taking photos at the airport. Right.
6:05am, we proceeded to the taxi queue slowly and lined up behind someone. The cabs arrived in orderly fashion, guided by one guy in bright green tee. The driver actually helped with the luggage and we got into the back seats and stoned. Hey! the driver is on the right side, and there is no plastic shield to protect him from prospective assailants! And he actually drives without swerving and within the speed limit!
Oh yes it is good to be back where things make sense and are familiar.
